WATCH: Mexican boxer wins match against American fighter wearing ‘America 1st’ trunks | CCTV News

Mexican boxer Francisco Vargas broke down walls on Thursday.

American fighter Rod Salka wore “America 1st” boxing trunks that had a red, white and blue brick-wall pattern on them during their fight at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California.

The shorts, which were were a play on President Trump’s idea of building a wall between Mexico and the United States, apparently only added fuel to Vargas’ fire.

The fight had to be stopped after six rounds after Salka suffered so much damage that his corner decided to throw in the towel, ESPN reports.

Vargas seized control of the fight in the fifth round after landing a punch on Salka’s chin that dropped the fighter to his knees. Salka was able to get up to beat the referees count just before the bell sounded for the end of the fifth round.

When Vargas continued the punishment in the sixth round, Salka’s team had the fight stopped. The loss, his first since 2014, dropped the fighter’s record to 24-5.

Vargas, who improved to 25-1-2, now hopes to fight for a title following his dominating performance.

Thursday also wasn’t Salka’s first loss involving politics.

The 35-year-old boxer previously ran as a Republican for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 2016, but he lost to Democrat William Kortz by 30 percentage points, according to The Washington Post.
